Katie’s practice focuses on representing school districts and municipalities and handling employment litigation matters. She counsels clients on a wide range of legal issues including employment disputes, labor negotiations, personnel complaints and investigations, vendor contracts, and New Hampshire’s Right-To-Know law. Katie litigates on behalf of her clients before state agencies and in state and federal court.
Prior to joining Upton & Hatfield, Katie was in-house counsel for a large school district in New Hampshire, where she provided legal and policy advice to the school board, Superintendent, and school administrators. She also worked closely with union representatives. Katie handled Title IX and other harassment investigations and advised on matters pertaining to student rights including student discipline proceedings.
Katie has significant experience litigating on behalf of her clients. For the first ten years of her career, Katie was a public defender. In this role, she handled a busy motion and trial practice, representing adult and juvenile clients during all phases of their case from arraignment through jury trial.
Katie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from The Colorado College, where she received awards for her dedication to community service and her academic work. Katie attended Suffolk University Law School, where she served on the Moot Court Honor Board, participated in a clinical trial practice class, and graduated cum laude.
Katie is currently serving as President of the New Hampshire Council of School Attorneys and presents annually on school law topics at the Bradley Kidder Conference. She is licensed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Katie lives in Bow with her husband and three children. She enjoys teaching her kids to ski in the winter, family camping trips in the summer, reading a good book, and generally being active with her family.
